MS Dhoni is yet to confirm his availability for IPL 2025.

The deadline to announce retained players is October 31.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni is yet to confirm whether he will play for the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as an uncapped player. With just two weeks to go to the deadline to announce final retentions for all the franchises, Dhoni is yet to revert to CSK. Earlier, he was supposed to meet CSK officials mid-October.

“We have approached him but he hasn’t reverted to us. As far as the meeting and other discussions related to the next IPL season are concerned, we are yet to hear from him. Once we meet, decisions will be taken,” a source told Sports Tak.

While there is no communication regarding the retention, CSK have left the decision to the five-time IPL winning captain.

“It’s his call. We never take any decision about Dhoni,” the source added.

As per the new rules and regulations, Dhoni can be retained as an uncapped player for as low as Rs 4 crore by CSK. The rule allows players who haven’t played international cricket in five years and don’t have a central contract for the same duration to play as uncapped players.

The deadline to announce the list of retentions is October 31. It is yet to be seen whether they will retain captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a hefty amount. Ravindra Jadeja is highly likely to be retained while CSK may opt for Right to Match (RTM) card for others.

Dhoni’s batting numbers in IPL 2024

Dhoni had a knee surgery and returned to play in IPL 2024. He often used ice packs after the games. In the previous edition, he played the role of finisher to good effect. He walked out to bat in the slog overs and smashed massive sixes. The 43-year-old was dismissed only three times in the season. He scored 161 runs from 11 inningws. His strike raet of 220.54 was hailed by many. Understanding his limitations, the wicketkeeper-batter smashed 13 sixes, something he had not done since 2019.
