A Delhi Capitals player has been granted bail in an alleged rape case 36 days after being in jail. The player in question is Abishek Porel. The Bengal wicketkeeper-batter has been granted bail by a Chinsurah court after spending more than a month in jail in connection with rape and related charges. The development was reported by ABP Ananda and several other reports.

The 23-year-old was arrested on 11 August 2026 following a complaint lodged by a Karnataka-based medical student at Magra Police Station in Hooghly district. The FIR, registered in June, alleged that Porel established a sexual relationship with her on the false promise of marriage.

It was further said that he later blackmailed her with threats to release intimate photographs and subjected her to assault and criminal intimidation. Additionally, the complainant stated that they travelled abroad during their relationship and that Porel later denied their relationship.
Multiple non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Information Technology Act were invoked. Porel has consistently denied the allegations since his arrest. He was initially remanded to police custody and later judicial custody after earlier bail pleas were rejected. The Calcutta High Court had earlier directed police to arrest him and seize his electronic devices.
On 17 September 2026, the Chinsurah court granted bail after the complainant submitted an affidavit stating she had no objection to his release and the police filed a chargesheet containing digital evidence. Porel was expected to be released on Friday, 18 September. He has represented Bengal in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
