Abishek Porel has been included in the state’s squad for Ranji Trophy 2026-27 practice matches. It comes after his bail in the alleged rape case, marking his first selection since the incident. Porel, who also plays for Delhi Capitals, was arrested in August 2026 following a complaint by a young medical student.

The allegations included rape on the false promise of marriage, criminal intimidation and related charges. The wicket-keeper-batter spent more than a month in judicial custody before a Chinsurah court granted him bail around 18 September.

The Cricket Association of Bengal had earlier left the 23-year-old out of its list of senior probables for the 2026-27 domestic season while the case was ongoing. His return to the practice squad represents a significant step towards a potential comeback in competitive cricket.
The Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season is scheduled to begin in October. The Indian Premier League player has been a regular for Bengal in recent years and has represented India A. The legal proceedings against him remain ongoing. He was brought by DC as a replacement for Rishabh Pant and made his debut against Gujarat Titans in April 2023.
In 2024, Abishek was retained by DC as he played 14 games. He was one of the four players retained by the IPL side as an uncapped player for the 2025 season. He played 13 league games that season.
