Devon Conway has been added to New Zealand's T20I squad as Finn Allen's replacement

Star southpaw Devon Conway has walked into New Zealand's squad for the T20I series involving South Africa and Zimbabwe. New Zealand didn't include Conway in the first place when they announced their T20I squad for the tri-series few days back. However, Finn Allen's injury paved the way for Conway's entry in to the Kiwi's T20I squad.

Devon Conway, who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL, has now been recalled to the team as a replacement for the injured Finn Allen, who picked up foot injury while participating in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 for the San Francisco Unicorns.

Although Conway hasn't featured in a T20I match for over a year, he has remained active in various franchise leagues. His most recent stint was with the Texas Super Kings in MLC, where he scored 135 runs across four matches, maintaining a strike rate of 127.35.

"We're really gutted for Finn. I was looking forward to working with him and to see him continue his form from the MLC but unfortunately injuries happen. We're lucky to be able to call on someone of Devon's quality to replace Finn," New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

Furthermore, three other players have been added to the squad: batsmen Mitchell Hay and Tim Robinson, and all-rounder James Neesham. This trio will provide additional cover for Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, and Rachin Ravindra, all of whom are scheduled to participate in the MLC final on Sunday.

"We knew there'd be a possibility that a handful of players could be involved in the MLC final, so we're bringing in Mitch, Jimmy and Tim as possible replacements," Walter added.

New Zealand's team for the tri-series will be led by all-rounder Mitchell Santner as the newly appointed coach, Walter, begins his tenure. The support staff will include Luke Ronchi, Jacob Oram, and James Foster. The squad will be without several key players, including Kane Williamson, who has made himself unavailable for the tour.

While Williamson is currently playing for Middlesex in the county cricket circuit in England, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been rested as part of managing his workload. Kyle Jamieson has chosen not to participate in the tour as he is expecting the birth of his child. Additionally, Ben Sears, a fast bowler, is sidelined due to a side strain injury.

New Zealand's campaign will get underway on July 16 with a match against South Africa. Each of the three participating teams will play the other two in a double round-robin format. The top two teams at the end of this stage will then proceed to the final, which is scheduled to be played on July 26.
