With several star players expected to be released by their teams and many hoping for a big payday, the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) is set for a blockbuster mega auction. On Thursday, October 31, when each side is expected to release the list of players they have decided to retain for the next season.
Ahead of the bidding wars, Sports Tak has learnt from its sources that Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan along with uncapped star, Rahul Tewatia are the most likely names that Gujarat Titans will retain ahead of the mega auction. The source further said that the franchise will not be retaining Mohammed Shami but if required team might use Right to match for the premium pacer
Another shocking name that missed out on this was Sai Sudharsan, the young player who has been one of the most consistent performers for the side. He was the highest run scorer for the franchise in the previous edition with 527 runs in just 12 matches with an astonishing average of 47.91. He even smashed one century and two fifties during this run.
IPL retention rules
Each side may keep up to five capped players out of a total of six players. Each team may keep two players who have not played for India, but they must keep at least one uncapped player. An ancient provision that allowed a team to keep any player who had not played for India for more than five years as an "uncapped player" for Rs. 4 crore has been reinstated, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A team must spend Rs. 18 crore (slots 1 and 4), Rs. 14 crore (2 and 5), and Rs. 11 crore (slot 5) on capped players. A team will will have a purse of Rs. 120 crore at the auction and they will lose the money they spend on retaining the players from their purse
