Jay Shah confirms Gambhir's appointment.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Gautam Gambhir will become the new Indian head coach. He made this official through a post from his official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter. He will be taking over the position as the successor of legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid who helped the Indian Cricket Team win the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 title and end the 11-year-long trophy drought in his last assignment.

“It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey,” Jay Shah tweeted.

Gautam Gambhir to start tenure with Sri Lanka tour

The legendary southpaw will start his tenure with the Men in Blue side with the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The three ODIs and three T20Is will be his first-ever assignment as the Indian head coach. India are the current T20 World Champions and Gambhir would like to lead the team forward in an equally dominant fashion. He has never coached an International or Ranji team, but during his two-year stints as mentor LSG qualified for playoffs in two consecutive years and he helped KKR become a champion once again following his return to Knights camp in a mentor role.

Gambhir puts forward Abhishek Nayar's name for coaching staff

Sports Tak understands that Gambhir has put forward his Kolkata Knight Riders' fellow Abhishek Nayar's name for the coaching support staff member. He will most likely take up the role of batting coach surpassing Vikram Rathour or might become Gautam Gambhir's assistant coach.
