"A heartfelt goodbye to Pakistan Super League! I'm writing this note which I thought I wouldn't be writing this year. Another PSL draft goes by and the same old story - didn't get picked. God knows why," Shehzad wrote in a pictorial message on his X profile.
Shehzad's contribution to Pakistan cricket, especially in the T20 format, has been significant. His recent form in the National T20 Cup highlighted his capabilities, where he delivered consistently high performances for his team. He began the tournament with a steady 60 off 52 balls against Larkana and then escalated his performance with a robust 81 off 44 balls facing Quetta. His form remained unflinching, as evidenced by his unbeaten 72 off 52 balls against KR Blues on November 28.
Despite these commendable efforts on the field, Shehzad finds himself outside the PSL framework for the 2024 season. He expressed disappointment over the fact that despite outperforming many players statistically in recent domestic matches, he was not chosen by any of the PSL franchises.
"I have tried really hard by giving it all in the domestic circuit consistently in the last few years, and did reasonably well in the National T20 Cup just before the PSL draft. There seems a deliberate effort to keep me out, even when franchises have opted for other performers with inferior numbers than me. But when everything is pre-planned so it doesn't really matter," he added.
In his note, Shehzad conveyed a sense of resignation yet determination, hinting that he would soon open up about the factors contributing to his absence from the league. This announcement has garnered attention, leaving fans and followers in anticipation of understanding the dynamics behind his exclusion from Pakistan’s premier T20 league.
"I don't know whose responsibility it is to get top domestic performers in the PSL then. But I exactly know the reasons why I'm not made part of the PSL - the whole country, and my fans will know it very soon," he added.
The situation places a spotlight on Shehzad’s career and the selection processes within PSL, stirring discussions among cricket enthusiasts and experts about performance and selection criteria in professional leagues. As the cricket community awaits further details from Shehzad, his situation underscores the complexities and challenges faced by professional athletes in maintaining their relevance in highly competitive sports environments.
