India batter Sai Sudharsan provided a huge injury update on Rishabh Pant ahead of the two-match four-day series against South Africa A that is set to commence from October 30. Both Pant and Sudharsan have been picked in India A's squad for the upcoming assignment and while the former has been chosen as the captain, the latter has been elected as his deputy.
Sudharsan on Pant's condition
Sudharsan revealed that the 28-year-old is looking in great condition as of current and even went on to say that he may even be 'fitter' than he was before getting injured in July.
“Rishabh looks fantastic, actually, may be fitter I would say. He had some time to build, put that training in his legs because sometimes when you get injured you have that specific time to work on whatever you want. I feel he looks a bit more fit and strong and as courageous as always he is," Sudharsan said after India A's training session.
“The message from Pant is very clear. We were in a huddle on the first day of training and he was saying that this is a great opportunity for everybody to again get the rhythm of the game. At the same time, we are also playing to win and that is the main thing," he added.
Pant has been out for months
Pant has been on the sidelines ever since he sustained a toe fracture against England in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England held at Old Trafford. He has been absent for three months from the international stage and will be looking to deliver in the series against South Africa A so that he can make a swift return to the national team.
Meanwhile, Sudharsan also highlighted the importance of India A matches and added that this will be a great opportunity for the players to plan according to the conditions that they will encounter with the national team in their home Test series against South Africa that will commence from November 14.
“India A matches are very important and we are lucky enough to have it just before the main series so that we take this as a big opportunity and build up really well and understand the conditions and obviously, plan accordingly for the series," Sudharsan stated.
