Pakistan’s recently-sacked ODI vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan has refused Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) central contract Rizwan is the only one among the list of 30 players who refused to sign the contract. As per a report by PTI, he was offered category B contract.
In addition to getting sacked as ODI captain, Rizwan continued to face snub from T20I squad, even though Babar Azam returned to the form for ongoing South Africa series, months ahead of T20 World Cup 2026.
Along with Rizwan, nine other players were offered Category B contract. Earlier, PCB stopped offering new category A contracts as they were unimpressed with players' performances.
Rizwan’s demand from PCB
As per the report, the wicketkeeper-batter refused to sign the document because he wants proper communication from the board. There wasn't even a mention of Rizwan in PCB's press release announcing Shaheen Afridi as new ODI captain.
Reportedly, Rizwan expects PCB to offer category A contract to senior players. Players also want the knee-jerk reactions to change captains after one bad series or tournament. Earlier, it was reported by TOI that Rizwan refused to endorse betting companies which led to him losing ODI captaincy.
After the completion of the T20I series, Rizwan is set to return to action in the three-ODI series against the Proteas starting at Faisalabad, Iqbal Stadium on November 4. He is the prominent wicketkeeper in the squad. Haseebullah Khan is the other wicketkeeper-batter in the squad.
Agha's struggle as T20I captain continues
Meanwhile, under Salman Agha's leadership, Pakistan lost the T20I series opener to South Africa by 55 runs in Rawalpindi. Agha continued to struggle in the format. He has the lowest strike rate among captains who have led Pakistan in 10 or more T20Is. From 31 T20Is as skipper, Agha has scored 559 runs at an average of 24.30 and strike rate of 108.96. He has scored just four fifties as T20I captain.
