Bangladesh Cricket Board's newly appointed president Faruque Ahmed inquired regarding star all-rounder Shakib Al Hassan’s availability and his willingness to play in Bangladesh this year. Al hasan was an Awami League member of parliament until the government fell on August 5. The nation is currently going through political turmoil. Faruque Ahmed has replaced Nazmul Hassan as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president. The board meeting was held in Dhaka on August 21 following Hassan’s resignation.

"We will give a lot of importance to understanding whether Shakib can play while staying outside Bangladesh. We have two home Tests coming up [in October], so I will discuss with my directors what the policy should be about Shakib. It should have been a policy matter even before [he became an MP] that he won't be allowed to do politics." Said BCB president.

Tamim had retired from international cricket last year before making a U-turn on his decision to opt out of contracts. He last represented Bangladesh in September 2023.

"The relevant board department will see what he has to do to play [for Bangladesh]," "I would like to see Tamim Iqbal play for two or three years more. Maybe ODI is his best format now. I think Tamim can tell you better whether he can play the longer format.I want to speak to Tamim about his future plans. He is a former captain so he definitely has leadership qualities. If he doesn't want to play, I will be happy to see him get involved with the board. He can serve us well in the board." Said Faruque.

Earlier in the year Bangladesh’s Test skipper also backed Tamim to make a comeback.

“Tamim retired from T20Is but if he is fit, I want him available for all formats. I think everyone in this country wants that. This is what I want but before everything, we have to see what he wants. Then the rest of the process. I spoke to him about what I want as a captain,” said Shanto.

Bangladesh is currently playing a two-match Test series against Pakistan. The series started on August 21st in Rawalpindi, the second Test will be played in Rawalpindi too due to the revamp of stadiums in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Bangladesh is ranked 8th in the World Test Championship table.
