The newly-appointed skipper expressed gratitude to fans, praising their constant support throughout his cricketing journey.

Shreyas Iyer shared his happiness after being given the leadership duties of India's T20I team during the BCCI selection committee meeting on Saturday, June 6. The right-handed batter will replace Suryakumar Yadav as the captain, who led India win Asia Cup and T20 World Cup titles after succeeding Rohit Sharma.

While leading SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the Mumbai T20 League, Iyer revealed he felt honoured and happy for the chance to captain the national team, calling it a proud moment in his career.

"It's a great feeling, and also an honour to represent the country at this level and lead them. I am definitely happy with what happened today on the field. I got crucial runs and got the team to victory, so it's like the icing on the cake," said Iyer after the Mumbai T20 League game.

 

 

When questioned if he had any message for the fans who supported him throughout his cricketing journey, Shreyas thanked everyone for showing faith in him.

"Oh, I love the fans-the way they have supported me and the contribution they have shown throughout the years. I think it's tremendous, and I want to shower my love and respect on them," Iyer added.
