ICC Hall Of Fame honours Sourav Ganguly, 12th Indian to receive recognition

The former India captain thanked ICC Chairman Jay Shah after receiving the prestigious honour.

In a series of landmark decisions, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The iconic recognition was confirmed on Wednesday, July 8, with Ganguly turning out to be the 12th Indian player to earn a place among the legends of the game.

Big moment for Indian cricket

The legendary left-handed batter, captained India across Tests and ODIs between 2000 and 2005, also shared the achievement with his well wishers through a post on his  official X (FKA Twitter) handle.

He expressed gratitude towards the ICC Chairman Jay Shah for inducting him into the Hall of Fame and shared his feeling on joining the list of legendary players of their times.

“Thank you ICC and Chairman Jay Shah @JayShah for inducting me in the Hall of Fame .. it’s a huge honour.. One of the 10 Indians to be inducted in the Hall of Fame ever .. Amazing to be a part of some great names .. @BCCI," Ganguly wrote.

Sourav Ganguly's impact on Indian cricket

During his iconic international career which spanned from 1992 to 2008, Gangly played a total of 311 ODIs and 113 Test matches for the Men in Blue. The left-handed batter amassed 7,212 runs and clinched 32 wickets in the longest format of the game. Meanwhile, Ganguly amassed a total of 11,363 runs and picked up 100 wickets in the ODI format.

As captain, he kicked off a new era of Indian cricket with his fearless approach in the overseas tours, famously leading the team to the final of the 2003 ICC Men's ODI World Cup where they lost against Australia. He selected a bunch of fresh faces, who went to play a big role in India's iconic 2011 ODI World Cup triumph.

With this honour, Ganguly has entered an exclusive list of Indian players in the ICC Hall of Fame. The list already features Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Vinoo Mankad, Diana Edulji, Neetu David and MS Dhoni.
