Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from Tests and ODIs.

Sunil Gavaskar says Kohli and Rohit will be undroppable if they score multiple centuries.

Gavaskar does not expect Kohli and Rohit to play in ODI World Cup 2027.

Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar does not see the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma duo aka Ro-Ko play in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 which will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Gavaskar talked about the thought process of the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee and how the senior duo can make themselves undroppable.

"They have been massive performers in this format of the game. Again, the selection committee will probably be looking at the 2027 World Cup. They will be looking at 'will they be able to be in the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to make the kind of contributions they have been making?'. That will be the thought process of the selection committee. If the selection committee thinks 'yes, they can', then both of them will be there for that," Gavaskar told Sports Today after Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket.

"No, I don't think they will be playing. I am being very honest. But, who knows, in the next year or so, if they strike a rich vein of form, and if they keep scoring hundreds and hundreds, even God can't drop them," Gavaskar said when asked about whether he sees Rohit and Kohli playing in the mega event.

What Rohit and Kohli said about ODI World Cup 2027

Roiht does not want to think too far ahead and wants to keep his options.

"It's very hard to say that right now," Rohit told the ICC. "But I'm keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I'm playing.

"Right now, I'm playing really, really well, and I'm enjoying everything I'm doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice.

"I can't really say 2027, because it's too far, but I'm keeping all my options open."

Meanwhile, Kohli, the chase master with most ODI centuries, has set his sight on the next World Cup.

“The Next Big Step? I Don't Know. Maybe Try To Win The Next World Cup 2027,” Kohli said.

India's next ODI campaigns

India's next ODI series is against Bangladesh in August 2025. However, there have been reports that India may not tour Bangladesh. However, later this year, India are scheduled to tour Australia for a limited-overs series featuring three ODIs on October where Rohit and Kohli are expected to be in action.
