However, the announcement was just a formality, as the overhaul in the coaching department was expected to take place after CSK had another disappointing campaign at the IPL 2026.

Ravichandran Ashwin to become CSK's next head coach?
Since Fleming's departure from the Yellow Army various names of potential successors to him floated across all the social media platforms. Names of Indian icons like Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin also emerged through various media reports. Now, the former India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin himself opened up on the possibility of going back to CSK in a different capacity.

On his official YouTube channel, Ashwin was asked about his possible return to CSK as their head coach or joining England as their Test coach. On both the fronts, Ashwin tried to maintain a secretive stance.
On being asked about the rumors of Ashwin joining England's Test team, Ashwin replied by saying, 'give me some time. I'll tell you.' On being countered with a CSK question, Ashwin simply ended the conversation by saying 'Thank you'.

Why Ashwin can be the best choice for CSK's head coach role?
The former CSK spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the hot candidates to take over the coaching role of the Chennai-based side. Ashwin has always been branded as the "thinking cricketer" as he always kept experimenting with his game, hence him becoming the CSK head coach could be a great addition, as he can add a lot of value with his recent experience in the T20 cricket. Notably, the former India all-rounder represented the Yellow Army in the 2025 edition before retiring from IPL.
