India all-rounder ruled out of One-Day Cup game in England due to injury, rookie pacer named replacement

India all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma has been ruled out Hampshire’s England’s Domestic One-Day Cup 2026 fixture against Derbyshire on August 11. Ashutosh picked up an injury during the clash against Sussex on August 9 at County Ground, Hove. He has been replaced by former England Under-19 player Harry Petrie who has played just one first-class and three List A games so far.

“Ashutosh Sharma is unavailable due to an injury he picked up during Sunday’s match – pace bowler Harry Petrie, who featured in the opening three games of the competition, comes back in,” Hampshire Cricket Club said in a statement on August 10.

In addition to Sharma, Eddie Jack is not available for Derbyshire game. He will rejoin MI London for the Hundred 2026 game. Meanwhile, Nick Gubbins has rejoined the squad after the birth of his second child.

Hampshire would look to maintain their stellar record against Derbyshire at Utilita Bowl. They haven't lost a List A game to Derbyshire at the venue in last seven fixtures.

Ashutosh’s numbers in the tournament

In his maiden stint for Hampshire, 23-year-old Ashutosh did more damage with the ball. He is Hampshire's leading wicket-taker in this year's competition. From seven games, he has 14 wickets, averaging nearly 16. He has a five-wicket haul and a four-fer. He is only one behind Northamptonshire's Indian recruit Yuzvendra Chahal.

He has managed to score just 56 runs from seven innings. His best score in the ongoing season is 16. He has been dismissed for a duck twice.

Will Ashutosh play another game?

The nature and extent of the injury has not been specified by Hampshire. Currently, they are placed fourth in Group B with four wins from seven games. If they retain their spot in top four after the Derbyshire clash, they will advance to the quarterfinals. If they don't make it to qualifiers, Sharma's maiden England One-Day stint will come to an end.
