India's left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has decided to cut-short his County stint with Essex early. The club said that Khaleel returned home due to personal reasons.
"Khaleel was Essex Cricket can confirm that Khaleel Ahmed has made the decision to return home for personal reasons and will be ending his time with the Club," the club said in a statement on July 28.
"While we are disappointed to see him leave, we fully support Khaleel’s decision and are grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us.
"Everyone at Essex Cricket wishes Khaleel all the very best for the future."
Khaleel played just two games for Essex in the ongoing County Championship Division One 2025. The 27-year-old claimed four wickets in the two games.
Earlier, Khaleel had signed for all six first-class games with the club followed by England's domestic One-Day Cup where he could play up to 10 games if they reach the final.
Before his short stint for Essex, he had played one game for India A against England Lions where he claimed a four-fer in the first innings. He was not called up to the Test side when India added Harshit Rana for the opening game and later replaced an injured Nitish Kumar Reddy with Anshul Kamboj.
Khaleel is likely to be seen in action as the Indian domestic cricket season kicks off with Duleep Trophy which has returned to the zonal format.
Khaleel's absence from international cricket
Khaleel has been absent from international arena for nearly a year. His last T20I appearance was in July 2024 against Sri Lanka. His last ODI appearance was nearly six years ao against West Indies.
