India tour of Bangladesh has been rescheduled

The white-ball series will now be played next year

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a rescheduling of the Indian men's cricket team's white-ball tour of Bangladesh. BCCI came out with an official statement on July 5 to announce the change in the schedule.

India tour of Bangladesh rescheduled

The tour, which was initially planned for August 2025 and included three One Day International (ODI) matches and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches, has now been postponed to September 2026.

The BCCI further stated that the revised dates and the detailed schedule for the tour will be announced at a later time.

"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026," BCCI's statement read.

"This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course," it added.

Earlier in the week, sources within the Bangladesh Cricket Board had indicated that the tour was awaiting clearance from the Indian government, a piece of information that was also reported by Indian media outlets. This uncertainty surrounding the tour reportedly stems from recent diplomatic tensions that have arisen between Dhaka and New Delhi. These tensions followed a significant public uprising in Bangladesh which led to the removal of the then Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, in August 2024.

Notably, Bangladesh had previously undertaken a tour of India in September–October 2024, which comprised two Test matches and two T20 International matches.

The rescheduling of the series meant, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have to wait a little longer to make their ODI comeback, having already retired from the T20Is and recently, Tests.
