India vs Sri Lanka Test series schedule and venues announced, Gill-led side's WTC campaign to resume on this date

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on July 2 announced the schedule for two-Test series against India at home. India are set to resume their World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 campaign on August 15.

The first Test will be played at Galle International Cricket Stadium. The second Test is scheduled to begin on August 23 at Colombo' Sinhalese Cricket Club.

The Shubman Gill-led side’s previous Test was a one-off against Afghanistan last month where WTC points were not on offer.

Where do India, Sri Lanka stand in WTC table?

Currently, Dhananjaya-led Sri Lanka are placed sixth on the WTC standings, just below India. They slipped to sixth position after a defeat by an innings in the opening Test of the series against West Indies. They have a chance to move up in the table if they beat Sri Lanka in the second Test of the series to level the series 1-1. So far, Sri Lanka have played three Tests including one win, one loss and one draw. Their win percentage is 44.44.

On the other hand, India are placed fifth with four Test wins from nine games. They have lost four whereas one ended in a draw. The historic Test series whitewash at home against South Africa hurt their chances of reaching the WTC final for the third time. 

Sri Lanka searching for 1st Test series win vs India since 2008

The last time India toured Sri Lanka for a Test series was in 2017. India beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in the Test series. All three were big wins, including two by an innings. Before that, they toured Sri Lanka for a Test series in 2015. They won the Test series 2-1. In 2010, India played a Test series on Sri Lankan soil as well. It ended in a 1-1 draw. Sri Lanka's last Test series win against Indi came in 2008 at home.

India finding answers for spin challenge

India will face the spin challenge again. They have not been at their best against spin as it was visible in the Test series against South Africa. They preparations have already started. For India A, Sai Sudharsan and skipper Dhruv Jurel scored a century each in the first unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A.
