All Indian cricketers who participated in the pre-season fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) over the weekend, including Test captain Shubman Gill and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, have successfully passed. According to a report by PTI, other players who underwent the tests, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur, have also cleared, making them fit for the upcoming season. The tests included the standard Yo-Yo test as well as a new addition, the DXA Scan.

The Yo-Yo test has been a staple of Indian cricket's fitness regimen for years, particularly since Virat Kohli's captaincy. It measures endurance by having players run back and forth between two cones placed 20 meters apart, synchronizing their movements with audio beeps. The pace progressively increases, with short recovery breaks, and the test concludes when a player can no longer keep up with the beeps, indicating their endurance level.
In contrast, the DXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scan is a more advanced assessment. It uses low-dose X-rays to create a medical image that precisely measures bone mineral density, body fat, and lean muscle mass. This scan is crucial for evaluating a player's risk of injury, especially fractures, and provides a comprehensive overview of their physical composition.
Aside from Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur, the other cricketers who passed the fitness tests are scheduled to travel to Dubai for the 2025 Asia Cup. They will be joining the team either as official squad members or as reserves. The tournament begins on September 9th, with India's first match against the UAE set for the following day.
The fitness test was particularly important for Shubman Gill, who had to withdraw from the Duleep Trophy, where he was slated to captain the North Zone, due to a fever. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who has retired from T20Is, will not be joining the team for the Asia Cup. According to the report, he is expected to remain in Bengaluru for additional training at the Centre of Excellence. His next international commitment will be the ODI series against Australia and South Africa in October and November respectively.
