Controversy took centrestage in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 when Siechem Madurai Panthers levelled ball-tampering allegations against legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's Dindigul Dragons. Days later after accusing Dindigul Dragons for using a chemical substance to harden the ball, the Madurai-based franchise has withdrawn the ball-tampering allegations.
“Following due consideration, the management and coaching staff of SMP have decided to withdraw the complaint in the larger interest of the sport and the smooth conduct of the tournament,” said Prasanna Kannan, the TNPL CEO.
“They have further clarified that the intention behind the complaint was not to bring disrepute to Mr. R. Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, the Dindigul Dragons team, the match officials, the TNPL, or the TNCA,” he added.

Earlier this weeek, the TNPL CEO said that the Madurai franchise can call for an independent enquiry if they have any verifiable evidence to support the allegations. However, the matter is now closed.
“In light of this withdrawal, the matter is deemed closed and no further action shall be pursued,” he said.
“In accordance with the Operational Rules of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, TNCA reviewed the matter and communicated the procedural steps required for initiating a formal enquiry.
“The SMP was accordingly requested to submit specific evidence that would enable the constitution of a commission to examine the matter and determine any further course of action,” he further added.
Where do Dragons and Panthers stand on TNPL 2025 points table?
Meanwhile, Dindigul Dragons and Siechem Madurai Panthers are placed fifth and sixth on the points table with two wins and two losses each from four games. Siechem Madurai Panthers won their previous encounter against Nellai Royal Kings by 10 runs but have an inferior net run rate to Dindigul Dragons.
On the other hand, Dragons botched up a run chase despite skipper Ashwin and Baba Indrajith's fifties. They lost seven wickets for 27 runs and suffered an eight-run defeat at the hands of Chepauk Super Gillies.
