Rohit and Virat will now be seen in action in ODI series against South Africa.

South Africa legendary speedster Jonty Rhodes reckons that India's veteran batting duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should continue featuring in international cricket 2027 ODI World Cup. He further explained that the duo have an ‘abundance’ of experience and mental strength to play a pivotal role in the mega event.

BCCI's captaincy shift sparked speculations on Rohit's ODI future

Batting duo Rohit and Virat announced their Test retirements earlier this year before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England and the duo only play in the ODI format for the country. Ahead of the ODI series against Australia, Rohit was also relieved of the ODI captaincy and was handed over to Shubman Gill.

Rhodes on Rohit and Virat's future

Amid all these developments, there are speculations about the duo's cricketing future. However, Rhodes believes that the duo should continue playing and keep producing runs for the country, adding that their presence will come in handy for India in the ODI World Cup.

"And I get asked, it happened with Tendulkar, it happened with Dhoni. It's like the next bunch of guys, when should they retire? When should they play? It's up to them. I mean, they keep producing the runs. Then you've got to select them. They've got so much experience," Rhodes told IANS.

"And we know tournaments like a World Cup. It's not just about the talent that you have, but it's also about, you know, the sort of mental strength of players. So Kohli and Rohit certainly have that in abundance," he added.

Rohit and Virat's last international outing

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli last donned the India jersey during the three-match ODI series against Australia where Rohit smashed a century in the third clash of finish as the highest run-getter. On the other hand, Kohli got out on ducks in the first two clashes but the batter came back strong to hit an unbeaten 74 in the series finale.
