India's star all-rounder Shivam Dube opened up on his unusual train journey after the team's T20 World Cup 2026 title triumph. Dube said he was very eager to meet his father and his child, and couldn’t wait any longer, which is why he chose to travel home early instead of staying back with the rest of the team.

Why Shivam Dube chose to come by train

Even though flights had already been arranged, Dube decided to take a train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai with his wife and a friend, travelling in a 3rd AC coach.

Speaking at an event, Dube said, “Ghar jaake mujhe apne bachche aur apne papa se milne ki kaafi anxiety ho rahi thi… isliye main subah-subah ghar chala aaya. Wait, hi nahi ho raha thha (I was feeling anxious to meet my child and my father at home… that is why I left early in the morning. I just could not wait).”

How Shivam Dube's wife helped avoid attention

Since he is a well-known cricketer, Dube tried to avoid attention during the journey. He chose a 5:10 AM train from Ahmedabad to avoid crowds and stayed in his car until the last moment before boarding.

To stay unnoticed, he wore a cap, a face mask and a full-sleeved T-shirt, and spent most of the journey resting on the upper berth.

Despite his efforts, he was almost recognised when a ticket checker looked at him and asked, “Shivam Dube? Who is he, a cricketer?” Thinking quickly, Dube’s wife replied, “No, no. Where would he come from?”, which helped avoid further attention.

Shivam Dube will now be seen featuring for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which will start from March 28.
