Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is set to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2026. The 35-year-old, who has formerly played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, has now joined LSG as their strategic advisor ahead of the upcoming season.
Earlier, it was reported that Williamson will be joining the LSG for the upcoming season of IPL, but now the development has officially been confirmed by franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka. He made a post on social media, welcoming Williamson to the franchise.
“Kane has been a part of the Super Giants family and it’s an absolute delight to welcome him in his new role as Strategic Advisor for @LucknowIPL. His leadership, strategic insight, deep understanding of the game, and ability to inspire players make him an invaluable addition to the team," Goenka posted on X.
There are also reports that Carl Crowe, who was previously associated with the Kolkata Knight Riders, will be LSG's spin bowling coach for the upcoming season. Earlier in July, the franchise had roped in Bharat Arun as their now bowling coach. On the other hand, Zaheer Khan's association with the franchise officially came to an end in September as he stepped down from his role of mentor.
Williamson's time in IPL
Meanwhile, Williamson has had a successful career in the IPL, scoring a total of 2128 runs across 10 seasons. Majority of these runs came for the Sunrisers Hyderbad where he even lifted the coveted IPL title in the 2016 season. He even went on to captain the side a couple of seasons later and is nothing short of a legend for them. He was associated for Gujarat Titans for two IPL seasons, but only played three matches for the franchise in total. He entered the auction ahead of the 2025 season, but ended up going unsold.
