Ladakh is moving ahead with ambitious plans to build what could become the world’s highest cricket stadium, and it is set to blow everyone’s mind. The project is proposed at an altitude of around 11,800 feet near Leh in the stunning mountain city near Thiksey, as per reports.

The Ranbirpur Cricket Stadium, earmarked for a site near Thiksey about 19-20 km from Leh town, is currently at the detailed project report stage. The Leh Public Works Department recently invited bids for consultancy services to assess feasibility. However, there is no official confirmation as of now.

Officials estimate the project could cost more than ₹100 crore, with a potential seating capacity of around 40,000. If approved and completed, the venue would significantly surpass existing high-altitude grounds such as the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala and the Chail Cricket Ground in Himachal Pradesh.
Authorities hope it will improve facilities for local players and boost sports tourism in the region, offering spectators dramatic views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape. Challenges remain, including the thin air and extreme cold, which could affect both construction and the physical demands on players. However, for the fans, watching a cricket match between the mountains is a dream come true.
The project is still conceptual, with final go-ahead dependent on the feasibility study and subsequent funding approvals from the central government. The proposal has already drawn attention online, highlighting Ladakh’s push to develop infrastructure in one of India’s most remote and elevated regions.
