He took over the role from Jason Gillespie.

Former fast bowler Aaqib Javed has been named interim head coach of the national white-ball team by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Javed will lead Pakistan's ODI and T20I sides till the Champions Trophy, which will take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9 of the following year. Jason Gillespie was the temporary coach for the ODI and T20I series in Australia after Gary Kirsten resigned as the white-ball coach. Javed will continue to serve as the senior member of the men's National Selection Committee while he is with the senior men's squad.

PCB dismissed rumours of Gillespie's sacking

Meanwhile, the PCB said that it would begin the hiring process for the permanent head coach of the Pakistani white-ball team, which it intends to finish by the conclusion of the Champions Trophy. The PCB denied reports on Sunday that Gillespie had been fired as head coach for all three formats. The former Australian speedster will continue to serve as head coach for Pakistan's two-match Test series against South Africa, which begins on December 26.

"PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa," the PCB wrote in a statement.

This year, Pakistani cricket has experienced numerous coaching staff changes. After Pakistan's failure to advance past the group stage of the Men's T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, Kirsten resigned from her position as coach, having joined them in April.

Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe for a T20I and ODI series following their tour of Australia. They will then play the Proteas in an ODI and T20I series before the Test series. From February 8 to 14, Pakistan will also host a triangular ODI series against South Africa and New Zealand.
