India's key pace bowler Mohammed Shami has been ordered to pay a monthly alimony of Rs 50,000 to his separated wife Hasin Jahan by a Kolkata court. This comes after Jahan had accused the right-arm pacer of multiple issues, including domestic abuse and adultery.

However, the defendant Jahan was not pleased with the eventual amount that Shami has been court-ordered to pay, given that her initial demand was Rs 10 lakh per month from the Indian pacer. In 2018, Jahan filed a legal case seeking monthly alimony of Rs 10 lakh — Rs 7 lakh for personal expenses and Rs 3 lakh for the maintenance of their daughter. This also means that Jahan will most likely appeal the ruling to a higher court for more payment.

The verdict was delivered on Monday, January 23, by Alipore court judge Anindita Ganguly.

The much-publicised spat between Shami and Jahan came to light when she filed an official complaint at the Jadavpur Police station accusing Shami of adultery and domestic abuse. Following the complaint, Shami was slapped with non-bailable charges of domestic abuse and attempt to murder.

The 42-year-old social media influencer claimed that the cricketer and his family tortured her whenever they went to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh.

"Yes, whenever I have gone to UP," Jahan had told India Today on being asked whether Shami's family also tortured her. "You can ask the neighbours how they (Shami's family) behaved with me. I was silent because he has been asking for a divorce for two years. He has been torturing me, he tried everything to make me leave him," Jahan added.

Shami has also threatened her over the phone using different phone numbers, Jahan claimed.

But the Indian bowler has claimed his innocence. He took to social media after these allegations were levelled at him, claiming that they were false and that it was his wife's conspiracy to defame him. He even told India Today in an interview that he was ready to apologise to Jahan if her allegations of infidelity and domestic abuse were proven to be true.

Shami is currently playing in the ODI series against New Zealand and is expected to be rested for the third match on Tuesday, January 24.
