Story Highlights:

India vs Sri Lanka's white-ball series is unlikely to happen

Reportedly SLC had earlier approached BCCI to host India for white-ball series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doesn't look interested in staging a white-ball series against Sri Lanka as Sports Tak has learnt that the tour is unlikely to happen.

No India vs Sri Lanka white-ball series?

Following the postponement of India's tour to Bangladesh, which included both One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) series, Sports Tak had earlier reported that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has expressed its interest in hosting India for a similar white-ball series within the same timeframe. It was learnt that at least two cricket boards, with SLC being one of them, have approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with proposals to fill the unexpected gap in India's cricketing calendar. India's originally scheduled tour to Bangladesh in August comprised three ODIs and three T20Is. However, this series has now been rescheduled to September 2026. Sensing an opportunity, Sri Lanka Cricket has officially offered to host India for an equivalent series, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.

But in the recent turn of event, a top source privy to the development has informed Sports Tak that the series is unlikely to happen now.

"We will decide about the series but it looks unlikely," the source told Sports Tak.

This might also mean a delayed return for Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the 50-over format as both the players have previously announced their retirement from Test and T20I cricket. Which means, Kohli and Rohit will straight up feature in the three-match ODI series against Australia in October. After Australia tour India will host South Africa for a three-match ODI series, starting from November 25.

But all of these will happen after the Asia Cup 2025. BCCI is anticipated to consult with the Indian government for directives on India's participation in the tournament, and has also kept United Arab Emirates as their contingent plan to host the Asia Cup 2025. The proposed timeline for the tournament indicates a state date of September 5. A major highlight of this schedule is the much-anticipated match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, which is tentatively set for September 7.
