West Delhi Lions opener Ankit Kumar put on a stunning display with the bat scoring 96 runs from just 46 balls. However, he was left red-faced when he started celebrating his century prematurely. Also, he was dismissed on the next delivery and returned to the pavilion without reaching the three figures.
The incident took place in the 16th over of West Delhi Lions' run chase against South Delhi Superstarz.Sumit Kumar Beniwal bowled a slower ball. Ankit waited and past the point fielder for a boundary. The opener took off his helmet, jumped in the air and screamed to celebrate the milestone he didn't cross.
As Ankit celebrated, his captain Rana was left stunned. On the next ball, Ankit went for a big shot against Beniwal. He could not time it and was caught by the long-on fielder Manish Sehrawat. Delhi Premier League T20 posted a video of the Ankit’s celebration and dismissal which has went viral on social media.
Ankit's match-winning 96-run knock was laced with six sixes and 11 fours. After he returned to the dugout, Ayush Doseja hit a boundary to finish the run chase. West Delhi Lions won the match by eight wickets with 26 balls left in the innings.
Excellent opening partnership
In the run chase, openers Krish Yadav and Ankit dominated the proceedings. Even mystery spinner Digvesh Rathi could not make an impact. His tricks did not work against a rampaging Ankit. After a verbal spat in the powerplay overs, The opener hit him for consecutive sixes later in the innings. The openers shared a 158-run partnership from 14 overs.
Two wins in a row, second on DPL 2025 points table
The Rana-led side are placed second on the points table with two consecutive wins. They are just behind on the net run rate (NRR). Central Delhi Kings are leading the points table with a better NRR.

West Delhi Lions' openers have been in good form. Krish and Ankit have scored 129 and 108 runs respectively. The leading run-scorer in the tournament is Central Delhi Kings opener Yash Dhull who has 156 runs from two innings, including a century. He is yet to be dismissed.
