West Indies Cricket on October 4 announced T20I and ODI squads for the tour of Sri Lanka. The notable absentees from the squad are in-form wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran, all-rounder Andre Russell, Akeal Hosein and Shimron Hetmyer. The four senior players have opted out of the tour due to personal reasons.

Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer have been rewarded for their recent performances and handed maiden call-ups. Brandon King continues to be sidelined due to injury. Evin Lewis replaced him in the squad. Lewis' last T20I appearance for West Indies was in 2022 edition of T20 World Cup.

"The tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations, especially with several senior players missing out for various reasons, including a need for rest and rehabilitation from injury. We are confident in the squad's ability to compete strongly against Sri Lanka,” said head coach Daren Sammy.

However, King has been named in the ODI squad. Shai Hope will lead the team with Alzarri Joseph as his deputy. 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew has received his maiden ODI call-up.

"As we continue to build our ODI team, this tour offers a valuable opportunity to evaluate strategies and give opportunities to emerging talent. We are excited to see young players like Jewel Andrew, who has earned his place as an exciting prospect for the future," said the two-time T20 World Cup champion.

West Indies will begin the T20I series at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The three-ODI series will be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium from October 20 to 26.
