Sarfaraz Khan after weight loss

Story Highlights:

Sarfaraz Khan has not played a Test since November 2024.

Sarfaraz has been told by the doctor to lose weight.

Sarfaraz has given up eating bakery items.

Discarded India batter Sarfaraz Khan responded to Test squad snub by losing reportedly 17 kgs. Sarfaraz posted a photo of himself at the gym, showing his drastic transformation. The weight loss impressed former England cricketer and current Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor who wanted Prithvi Shaw to take inspiration from him. Sarfaraz's father Naushad has revealed that the 27-year-old has been following a strict diet.

“We have controlled our diet a lot," Naushad told Hindustan Times. “We have stopped eating roti, rice, etc. We haven’t eaten roti or rice at home for 1 to 1.5 months. We eat broccoli, carrot, cucumber, salad, and green vegetable salad. Along with that, we eat grilled fish, grilled chicken, boiled chicken, boiled egg, etc. We are also having green tea and green coffee."

“We eat avocados also. There are sprouts also. But the main thing is that we have stopped eating roti and rice. We have stopped eating sugar. We have stopped eating maida (flour) and bakery items," he added.

However, Sarfaraz's sudden weight loss is a result of his knee issues. The doctor told the Mumbai batter to reduce weight before knee replacement.

Naushad reveals he himself has been asked to lose weight for a knee replacement surgery.

“He (Sarfaraz) has almost lost 10 kgs within 1.5 months. He is working on reducing his weight even further. I have reduced 12 kgs myself because I had a knee issue. So, I also benefited from it. The doctor told me that I have to do a knee replacement. So, I told him that I had to delay it. He told me that I have to reduce my weight for that," Naushad revealed.

Sarfaraz's Test career

Sarfaraz made his Test debut last year against England at home. He scored twin fifties on debut. He scored his maiden Test century against New Zealand in a losing cause. He retained his place in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025 on Australian soil but did not get a chance except the pink-ball warm-up game where he departed early.

Sarfaraz was picked for two unofficial Tests against England Lions. He played in the second game and scored 92. He played in the intra-squad game where he scored a century and returned to India.
