Paras Mhambrey is impressed by Prasidh Krishna's ability to hit the deck hard.

Over the last decade, pace bowling has become India’s strength. India have enough bench strength that even after losing few pacers to injuries, an Ajinkya Rahane-led side beat Australia on Australian soil. The pace battery played a huge role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph as well. After his tenure came to an end, India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has named Prasidh Krishna as someone who he looks forward to hitting the deck on pacer-friendly wickets of Australia and South Africa.

“I want to see how Prasidh progresses. That's one name that comes to mind. He has shown a lot of potential. Tall guy. He's very different from the others. Hits the deck hard. You need to have bowlers to use different conditions. He is one bowler who can be of use in Australia, South Africa and add a lot of variety to the attack,” Mhambrey told Hindustan Times.

Injury holds back Prasidh

Prasidh’s career has been marred with injuries. He underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon in February 2024 and is yet to make his comeback to competitive cricket. It led to Rajasthan Royals pacer getting ruled out of IPL 2024. He has played just two Tests more than two years apart. He has two wickets in the red-ball format and is yet to play a Test overseas.

In First-Class cricket, the Karnataka pacer has bagged 58 wickets from 15 games at an average of 19.41 including three five-wicket hauls.

More exciting pacers on Mhambrey’s list

Mhambrey named more pacers who have struggled with fitness of late but are capable of performing well. He also named Umran Malik as someone who has added to the bench strength.

“There is Kuldeep Sen. He has an x-factor. He is another tall guy with the ability to generate pace, but both he and Prasidh are struggling with fitness,” he said.

“Mayank Yadav is a recent case of someone who has stormed the IPL. Raw pace. Again, someone who has fitness issues. We have to manage them. Whatever little I saw of Mohsin Khan, I was very impressed. A tall left-armer, generates a lot of bounce. Obviously, Umran Malik is also there. Apart from Avesh, Harshit, Mukesh, and the others on the team, I feel these are the guys we should look forward to.”
