The New Zealand bowlers went on to dominate during the second day of the first Test against West Indies at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. This led to the hosts taking a 96-run lead by the end of the day and they now head into the third day on a positive note. Jacob Duffy was the star performer for the Kiwis in the bowling department as he recorded figures of 5/34 while Matt Henry also contributed well with figures of 3/43.
New Zealand had finished off the first day on 231/9 and their final two batters failed to score any runs on the second day as Jayden Seales dismissed Zakary Foulkes. The likes of Seales, Kemar Roach, Ojay Shields and Justin Greaves all finished with two scalps each. Kane Williamson was the top-scorer for the Kiwis with his knock of 52 while Michael Bracewell also contributed well with his inning of 47 as the hosts got bowled out for a respectable total of 231.
West Indies' poor start
In reply, West Indies had a horrendous start to their innings as opener John Campbell lost his wicket in the second over to Foulkes. Henry would soon get rid of Alick Athanaze cheaply for four before the duo of Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Shai Hope formed a robust stand of 90 runs. Duffy would go on to end the partnership by getting rid of Hope for 56 runs before Henry got the big wicket of Roston Chase for a duck.

Greaves would also not be able to trouble the scores and was sent back to the pavilion by Henry for a three-ball duck. This saw the Windies get restricted to 106/5 at one stage. A decent partnership between Chanderpaul and wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach looked to have settled things a little, but Foulkes would soon dismiss the former for 52 runs. The visitors would lose their last four wickets for the space of just 27 runs with Duffy clinching all of them as the Kiwis took a 64-run lead heading into their second innings.
New Zealand finish the day strong
The opening pair of Tom Latham and Devon Conway would ensure that the hosts didn't lose any wickets in the remaining seven overs of the day and this led to them finish on 32/0. The duo will be aiming to form a big partnership and provide the team with a strong start to the third day.
