Pakistan-origin cricketer Junaid Zafar Khan dies after fielding for over 40 overs in Australian heat

The temperate was 41.7 degrees celsius, just below the allowed temperature allowed by Adelaide Turf Cricket Association's rules to play in.

Pakistan-origin cricketer Junaid Zafar Khan collapsed on the ground during a local club match at the Concordia College in Adelaide which led to his death. 

Playing for Old Concordians Cricket Club against Prince Alfred Old Collegians on March 15, Junaid collapsed around 4 PM (local time). The temperature was above 40 degrees celsius (41.7) during the game as per the data from Bureau of Meteorology.

Amidst heatwave in South Australia, as per the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association's rules, if the temperature goes over 42 degrees celsius, no further play is possible and the games are cancelled. 

Junaid fielded in the extreme heat for 40 overs and batted at no.7.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of a valued member of the Old Concordians Cricket Club, who tragically suffered a medical episode while playing on the Concordia College oval today," the club said in a statement.

"Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly did not survive. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time."
