Pakistan stay at bottom of WTC 2025-27 points table, West Indies get close to England's spot with 90-run win

The reinstatement of Babar Azam as Test captain did not change Pakistan’s fortunes. After their fourth consecutive Test defeat, the Pakistan team slipped to the bottom of the points table. With a 90-run win at Brian Lara Stadium on Sir Garfield Sobers’ 90th birth anniversary, Roston Chase-led West Indies finally managed to move up from the bottom of the standings. West Indies are now closing in on England’s win percentage with their second consecutive Test win.

In a match which featured Justin Greaves' historic five consecutive maiden-wicket overs, Pakistan were asked to chase 211. With first innings' centurion Shan Masood suffering a fractured finger, Pakistan's hopes were dented. Jayden Seales' fifer trumped Babar's gritty unbeaten 58 as Pakistan were bowled out for 120 in yet another collapse in red-ball cricket.

Pakistan haven't won a Test since their WTC campaign opener against South Africa at home last year. They have a win percentage of 6.67.

History awaits Chase’s men

The second and final Test of the series begins on August 2 at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain. West Indies have not won a Test series against Pakistan since 2000. If West Indies win the second Test as well, they will go past England and take the seventh position. The Caribbean side may move up even further if India defeat Sri Lanka in the two-Test series next month. Also, Bangladesh play table-toppers and 2023-25 winners Australia in a historic two-Test series. Bangladesh are already missing a few key players. They can slip from the fourth position as well.
