Playing his first Ranji Trophy match for Maharashtra, Prithvi Shaw had a short stay at the crease against Kerala on the opening day of 2025-26 season. After an 181-run knock against his former team Mumbai in a three-day practice game, he departed for a four-ball duck. 

Four ducks for Maharashtra first few overs

After Kerala skipper Mohammed Azharuddeen won the toss and opted to bowl first, MD Nidheesh and Nedumankuzhy Basil wreaked havoc with the new ball. Shaw was dismissed for a four-ball duck by Nidheesh in the first over. On the next delivery, Siddesh Veer edged one to the wicketkeeper.

On the first ball of the second over, young opener Arshin Kulkarni was dismissed in the slip cordon by Basil. Maharashtra were three wickets down in just seven balls without a run.

Skipper Bawne could not get off the mark either. He was knocked over by Basil, becoming fourth Maharashtra batter to get out without getting off the mark.

Brief resistance ends

Ruturaj Gaikwad and wicketkeeper-batter Saurabh Nawale tried to play out the new ball. They shared a 13-run partnership for the fourth wicket from 50 deliveries. In his sixth over with the new ball, Nidheesh dismissed Nawale for a 23-ball 12. Maharashtra lost half the side for 18 runs in 10.5 overs.
