Story Highlights:

R Ashwin was baffled by poor umpiring in TNPL 2025.

The umpire gave Ashwin lbw despite the ball pitching outside leg stump.

Dindigul Dragons suffered a batting collapse and lost by 9 wickets.

Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin lashed out at the on-field umpire as he was given out lbw despite left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore pitching the ball outside the off stump. Ashwin who was playing his second match in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 argued with umpire Venkatesan Krithika but she paid no heed to former India all-rounder.

The incident took place in the fifth over of the innings. Ashwin was batting on 18 when he went for the sweep shot but missed the ball. He tried to take a single as the ball went towards short fine leg but the umpire raised her finger. As Ashwin did not have a DRS to challenge the decision, he walked out of the ground reluctantly. He hit his pad with the bat as well.

Dragons collapse

Ashwin's 11-ball 18 cameo included two fours and a six. After Ashwin, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans captain Kishore got rid of Shivam Singh as well. Shivam scored 30 runs from 27 balls including four fours and a six. Dindigul Dragons suffered a batting collapse. From 61/1, they were bowled out for 93 in 16.2 overs. R K Jayant was the only other batter who scored in double digits. Esakkimuthu A picked up four wickets whereas Mathivannan bagged three.

No Ashwin-Chakravarthy magic with ball

Ashwin could not do much to defend the non-threatening total. Ganeshan Periyaswamy got the consolation wicket of Amit Sathvik in the fourth over. Opener Tushar Raheja went berserk as he smashed five sixes and six fours his unbeaten 39-ball 65. On the other end, S Radhakrishnan remained not out for 14 runs off 21 balls. Ashwin was unimpressive with the ball and went for 28 runs in two overs. Varun Chakravarthy remained wicketless as well and conceded 25 runs. IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans chased down the target with nine wickets in hand and 49 balls to spare.

This was Dindigul Dragons' first loss of the tournament. In the TNPL 2025 opener, Shivam's unbeaten 50-ball 82 helped them beat Lyca Kovai Kings by seven wickets. Ashwin took two wickets as well. Their next match is on June 14 against Siechem Madurai Panthers at SCG Cricket Ground, Salem.
