Raichandani enters Gambhir-Pujara's list with 207, IND U19 post 576 vs SL U19 1st Youth Test

India's young opener Lakshya Rajesh Raichandani entered the elite list of batters to score a double century in youth Tests. Raichandani is the seventh Indian batter to score a double ton in youth Tests. The list includes the likes of Gautam Gambhir (212) and Cheteshwar Pujara (211). The record for the highest score by an India batter in youth Tests is Pawan Shah with 282 against Sri Lanka in 2018.

At the end of Day 3's play, Raichandani was batting on 196 from 306 balls. India U19 had 378/3 on the board. In the second over of Day 4, Raichandani scored a couple of runs to reach his double century from 310 balls. However, he couldn't carry on and got bowled by Dimarth Abeyshinghe in the 121st over of the innings. Raichandani's knock of 207 from 324 balls was laced with 22 fours and three sixes. He batted for eight hours and 12 minutes.

Earlier, Raichandani and Sagark Virk had shared a 295-run opening partnership. It is the second-highest partnership in history of Youth Tests. Virk scored 134 runs from 312 balls, including 15 fours and a six.

The record for highest opening partnership in youth Tests belongs to Gambhir and Vinayak Mane when they shared a 391-run opening partnership while following on against England Under-19 in Chennai in 2001.

Krishna bats with tail, scores century

After Raichandani's wicket, wicketkeeper-batter Manav Krishna saw Kavya Patel and Jeganathan Hemchudesan dismissed cheaply. He shared a 74-run partnership for the eighth wicket with BK Kishore who faced 81 balls to score 23 runs. When the ninth wicket fell, Krishna was batting on 78. He hit Ramiru Perera for a couple of fours. He hit two consecutive sixes to reach his century from 152 balls before falling to Kavija Gamage the next delivery.

India posted 576/10 in 173.5 overs, taking a 152-run lead at Galle International Stadium.

This is India's fourth-highest score in youth Tests. India have posted 613/8 against Sri Lanka in 2018, 611/9 against Pakistan in 2006 and 598 against Sri Lanka in 2018.
