Star Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing edition of The Hundred 2024 in which he was representing the Trent Rockers franchise due to an unfortunate hamstring injury. The leg-spinner suffered this injury while fielding in the last over during his side's previous match against the Southern Brave, on August 10.

Chris Green to replace Rashid Khan

According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, Australian spin-bowling all-rounder Chris Green who has also played for three-time IPL-winning franchise KKR back in 2020 will be replacing the Afghanistan icon in the Trent Rockets squad.

The Trent Rockets are still alive in the competition and can qualify for the knockout stage as they still have two league stage matches remaining. With six points, the winners of the 2022 edition rank fifth in the points table. They are scheduled to face Birmingham Phoenix, who are on the fourth spot in a crucial game on Monday, August 12, at Edgbaston.

In addition to Rashid Khan, the Trent Rockets saw another injury scare in the form of Imad Wasim in their recent final-set defeat away from home. The Pakistan all-rounder hasn't been ruled out, so he's still in the team and could be in the running to play in the next crucial match. Rashid Khan has scored 44 runs at a strike rate of 157.15 and taken nine wickets in five games this season.

After Afghanistan's good 2023 ODI World Cup campaign in the subcontinent, the all-rounder underwent back surgery. He made his much-awaited comeback ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) and later drove his country to a historic outing in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they finished in the semi-finals. Rashid Khan also withdrew from The Hundred 2023 due to an unidentified injury a day before the tournament started. The all-rounder would be eyeing to regain fitness in time for the upcoming one-off Test against New Zealand, which is scheduled to be held in Noida in September.
