Revealed: Why Hardik Pandya is missing from India's white-ball squads against West Indies

Hardik Pandya's absence from India's ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming series against West Indies has left fans wondering about the reason why the superstar all-rounder's name was found missing from the line-up.

Team India is gearing up for a packed home schedule as the West Indies arrive for a white-ball tour featuring both ODI and T20I encounters, offering several core players a platform to consolidate their places in the setup. The three-match ODI leg kicks off on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, before moving to Guwahati for the second fixture on September 30 and concluding on October 3 in New Chandigarh.

Why Hardik Pandya missed selection for West Indies series?

This series carries significant weight as the national selectors evaluate senior players' fitness and refine the core group with an eye on long-term squad planning for the ODI World Cup 2027. However, the complete absence of Hardik Pandya from both the 50-over and T20I squads has raised major questions, particularly as the star all-rounder was widely tipped to make his international return during this series following a long injury layoff.

Having remained sidelined from competitive action since IPL 2026 due to recurring injury setbacks, Hardik Pandya's exclusion from the national squad initially came without an official explanation. However, media reports from Dainik Jagran indicate that ongoing physical limitations remain the primary barrier, with the all-rounder currently restricted to bowling no more than six overs per fixture, a constraint that likely ruled him out of selection.

Despite missing out on the West Indies series, Hardik has been named in the India A squad for the upcoming one-day series against Australia A starting in October. Selectors are ensuring he can comfortably deliver a full 10-over spell and field for 50 overs before reintegrating him into the senior ODI setup.

His continued absence has opened the door for Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was pulled from India's Asian Games roster to take a place in the main ODI squad for the West Indies series.
