India will travel to Australia in November for a five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test series in an effort to improve on their recent impressive results against the Australians in Test cricket. Since the 1991/92 season, which also took place in Australia, these two cricketing titans have not competed in a five-match Test series. India's record against Australia in Test cricket has been remarkable in recent years. Each of the last four series has ended in a narrow 2-1 victory for the Indian side. This includes their historic victories in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 series in Australia. The last series was especially noteworthy because it took place during the COVID-19 pandemic. India played to a memorable draw in Sydney before winning the final Test at the Gabba with a team that was severely depleted and lacking in experience.
The last time Australia defeated India in a Test series was in the 2014/15 season. The first two Tests, held in Adelaide and Brisbane, were won by Australia, and the third Test, held in Melbourne, was a draw. In addition, this series saw a significant shift in Indian cricket when MS Dhoni resigned midway through the series to hand over the captaincy to Virat Kohli. Ahead of the upcoming series Nathan Lyon has shared his views on the series and names Yashasvi Jaiswal as the batter that will be a massive challenge for their team.

"Star Australian offspinner Nathan Lyon shared his thoughts on the upcoming series, highlighting the host team's determination to reverse their recent performance against India. A strong desire to reclaim the trophy was expressed by Lyon. He acknowledged India's superiority but maintained his focus on regaining the series," said Nathan Lyon to ESPN Cricinfo.
Lyon also said that the Australian bowlers would face a big challenge from Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He mentioned discussing Jaiswal's capabilities with England spinner Tom Hartley during the county season with Lancashire.
"I haven’t come across him [Jaiswal] yet, but that will be a massive challenge for all us bowlers. The way he played against England, I watched that quite closely and thought that was quite amazing. I had some really good chats with Tom Hartley about different ways he went about it to different guys which I found quite interesting. I love talking about cricket, so if I can talk to someone who has played Test cricket I might be able to pick up something I’m not aware of. There’s so much knowledge floating around this game that we can always tap into," Lyon added.
Young Jaiswal stole the show with his performance in India's recent Test series against England. He scored 712 runs at an average of 89, including three fifties and two double centuries. In five Tests, Jaiswal was only dismissed once despite Hartley's efforts. Jaiswal will be traveling with the senior team to Australia for the first time, and he will be eager to make an impression against the strong Australian bowling attack.
