On Thursday, as India celebrated its 79th Independence Day, many cricketers used social media to share their heartfelt wishes for the nation. The day's events were marked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the national flag at Delhi's Red Fort. Adding to the patriotic spectacle, two Mi-17 helicopters from the Indian Air Force showered flower petals from above.

India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma, posted a particularly memorable message, recalling the moment he hoisted the tricolour at Kensington Oval in Barbados after leading the team to victory in the T20 World Cup. Following that win, Rohit announced his retirement from the format.

Virat Kohli joined the many tributes for India's 79th Independence Day, sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram that quickly resonated with his millions of fans.

"Today, we smile in freedom because they stood with unwavering courage. We salute and honour the sacrifices of our heroes on this joyous Independence Day. Proud to be Indian. Jai Hind," Kohli wrote.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also joined in the celebrations, posting a greeting on its official X account that read, "Wishing all Indians a Happy Independence Day Jai Hind #TeamIndia | #HappyIndependenceDay."

India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, also extended his Independence Day greetings to the nation. He posted a picture from his playing career, accompanied by the powerful message, “My country, my identity, my life! Jai Hind!”

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar marked the occasion by sharing a photo of himself proudly raising the tricolor.

Meanwhile, former middle-order batter VVS Laxman's message encouraged citizens to contribute to a better future. He posted,

"On this Independence Day, let us remember the countless sacrifices that won us the gift of freedom. Let us strive each day to build a brighter, stronger India that our future generations will be proud of. Wishing you a Happy #IndependenceDay! Jai Hind!".

 

 

Meanwhile, India's star pacer Mohammed Siraj also took to Instagram to wish the countrymen, "Happy Independence Day, Jai Hind".
