The former United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has expressed disappointment as India batting great Virat Kohli has announced retirement from Tests because the fans would not be able to witness him in action in the upcoming five-Test match series against England, which is scheduled to start from June 20.

Sunak is an avid cricket fan and enthusiast; he has enjoyed his interactions with cricketers during his time as British Prime Minister. In March 2023, he hosted the T20 World Cup-winning England men's team at 10 Downing Street and also played an impromptu garden cricket game with them.

Sunak took his 'X', formerly known as Twitter, to congratulate Kohli on his illustrious career in red-ball cricket after he hung up the boots from the longest format of the game.

"Sad we won't get to see Virat Kohli one last time this summer. He has been a legend of the game: a superb batsman, an astute captain and a formidable competitor who always understood the true value of Test cricket" posted Rishi Sunak

Kohli is one of the greats to feature in the longest format of the game. He played 123 Test matches where he scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties in 210 innings and the best score of 254*. He ended his Test career as the fourth-highest run-getter in the longest format of the game behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs), Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs). Kohli also holds the record for most Test runs as an Indian captain with 5,864 runs in 68 matches (113 innings) at an excellent average of 54.80, including 20 centuries and 18 fifties.
