Rabada has been ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa.

Teenager Kwena Maphaka has replaced Rabada in the squad.

South Africa's star pacer Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the three-ODI series against Australia. On August 19, Cricket South Africa (CSA) released a statement saying that he will miss the ODI series "due to inflammation of his right ankle".

“The 30-year-old underwent a scan on Monday, which confirmed the extent of the injury. He will remain in Australia and undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of the Proteas medical staff,” CSA said in a statement.

Rabada’s replacement in the ODI series

Young left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka has been named as his replacement in the ODI series. Maphaka was the leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded T20I series. He took 19 wickets at an average of 12.56, including a four-wicket haul.

The 19-year-old made his ODI debut against Pakistan in December 2024 and claimed an expensive four-wicket haul in a losing cause. He has five wickets from two games so far. But, his economy rate of 7.70 runs per over is on the higher side.

Maphaka did not make it to the side for first ODI of the series, starting at Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns. Dewald Brevis and spin-bowling all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen were handed their ODI debut caps by skipper Temba Bavuma.

"We've got Brevis and Subrayen in today, quite excited at seeing what they can do. We'll want to play according to the conditions and want the guys to enjoy playing," Bavuma said at the coin toss.
