Shafali Verma scripts history; becomes youngest in Women’s T20I to create an unbelievable record

Indian women's cricket players continue to make history, and they are not stopping anytime soon, it seems. The latest in the list is Shafali Verma. The Indian opener etched her name in the record books on Saturday, becoming the youngest player to score 3,000 runs in Women’s T20 Internationals. 

The 22-year-old, aged exactly 22 years and 220 days, achieved the landmark during India’s Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Group A clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. She also set a new mark as the fastest to reach the milestone, reaching it in just 2,182 balls faced and surpassing the previous record held by Australia’s Alyssa Healy.

Verma is the 16th woman overall and the third Indian, after Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, to join the exclusive 3,000-run club in the format. She overtook Ireland’s Gaby Lewis, who previously held the youngest record at 24 years and 347 days. 

The milestone came as the Women in Blue restricted their traditional rivals Pakistan to 55 all out and chased the target with ease, securing a seven-wicket victory. Verma needed seven runs at the start of the innings and wasted little time, bringing up the landmark early with aggressive strokeplay.

The achievement underlines Verma’s rapid rise since her T20I debut in 2019 as a 15-year-old and further strengthens India’s standing among the leading batting sides in women’s cricket.
