Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer is set for another knockout clash. In the T20 Mumbai League 2025, Iyer's SoBo Mumbai Falcons have qualified for the semifinals. They advanced to the next stage despite a 36-run loss to Eagle Thane Strikers at Wankehde Stadium on June 7.

Patil rescues after top-order collapse

Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first. Eagle Thane Strikers suffered a top-order collapse. They were 10/3 in the third over. Sairaj Patil and captain Atharva Ankolekar shared a 69-run partnership for the fourth wicket. They lost half the side for 92 runs. Patil played the anchor knock. He fell fot a 37-ball 61 in the 15th over. His knock was studded with three fours and five sixes. In the slog overs, Vinay Kunwar's 25-ball 39 helped Eagle Thane Strikers post 151/8.

Patil inflicts damage with ball too

In the run chase, Angkrish Rahuvanshi got out stumped for a single-digit score to Ankolekar in the second over. Iyer got off the mark with a four. In the next over, he hit Shashikant Kadam for a four and a six. Ankolekar was expensive but got the wicket of opener Ishan Mulchandani as well. In the next over, Harsh Aghav got run out. Then, Patil got the prized wicket of Iyer who scored 25 runs from 14 balls. SoBo Mumbai Flacons were 63/4 after powerplay overs.

Patil in his third over struck twice off consecutive balls to dismiss Shreyanssh Rai and Vinayak Bhoir. Skipper Ankolekar returned to trap Akash Parkar in front of the wickets for an 18-ball 19. Wickets kept falling for Falcons. In the 16th over, Patil wrapped up the proceedings with another wicket. He won the 'Player of the match' for his all-round display. This was Eagle Thane Strikers' third win of the season. They are at the top of the points table with a superior net run rate (NRR).

Iyer's run in the tournament so far

Meanwhile, Iyer has not been at his best in the T20 Mumbai League 2025. In his first appearance in the third edition of the league, he scored just 13 runs from 19 balls. Despite his struggle, SoBo Mumbai Falcons beat Triumphs Knights MNE. In the next match against North Mumbai Panthers, he did not get to bat as Muclhandai and Aghav scored unbeaten fifties.

Before the semifinals, SoBo Mumbai Falcons will go up against Akash Tigers MWS at the same venue on June 8. Aakash Tigers MWS have won just one match so far.
