Sophie Molineux named captain as Australia announce squad for upcoming series vs India

Australia all-rounder Sophie Molineux is set to succeed Alyssa Healy as the team's new captain across the three formats. She will only be captaining the T20I side against India as Healy will be leading in the ODI and Test assignments in what will be her farewell series. Molineux will eventually take over the reins in all the three formats when the side tours the Caribbean in March. This decision was taken after Healy shockingly decided to retire from all forms of cricket earlier in January. This decision came months after Australia's defeat to India in the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup.

Schedule of the series

The upcoming assignment between Australia and India will comprise of three T20Is, three ODIs and a single Test. While the T20I series will begin from February 15, the ODI assignment will commence from February 24 and the Test match will be played from March 6.

Tahlia McGrath will continue as the team's vice-captain and will be joined by Ashleigh Gardner, who has been appointed as the co-vice-captain. The Australian selectors have made some bold calls for the series against India, leaving spinner Alana King out of the T20I side and the likes of Megan Schutt, Grace Harris and Heather Graham out of the ODI squad.

Litchfield in the mix despite injury

On the other hand, Phoebe Litchfield has been named in all the three squads despite recently getting ruled out of Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 due to a quad injury. Additionally, 19-year-old pacer Lucy Hamilton has earned her maiden call-up to the Australian team and has been included in their Test squad.
