Stokes bowled for golden duck but Durham recovers from 97/6 to chase down 327 as Rhodes scores unbeaten 148

England’s former Test captain Ben Stokes registered his first duck after bidding goodbye to international cricket. In England’s One-Day Cup 2026 match on July 29 against Glamorgan at Roseworth Terrance, Gossforth, Stokes was clean bowled for a golden duck. In the run chase of 327, Durham suffered a collapse losing six wickets for 97 runs. Then, Will Rhodes and skipper Kasey Aldridge staged a rare comeback. Rhodes scored an unbeaten 148 to lead Durham to a three-wicket win as their unbeaten run in the tournament continued.

Daniel takes Glamorgan to a challenging total

Earlier, Durham skipper Aldridge won the toss and opted to bowl first. Glamorgan openers Zain-ul-Hassan and Edward Byrom scored fifties, sharing a 142-run partnership. Rhodes made an impact with the ball as well, taking a couple of wickets. Stokes got his first wicket since retirement. The pacer delivered nine overs, conceded 64 runs. His only wicket was Henry Hurle. Later in the innings, Daniel Douthwaite's 18-ball 45 featuring five sixes took Glamorgan to 326/6.

Stokes’ golden duck, Durham’s batting collapse

In the run chase, Alex Lees was dismissed cheaply by Zain. Then Douthwaite struck twice in the sixth over, dismissing Emilio Gay and Stokes. Zain got the wicket of Graham Clark. Colin Ackerman and wicketkeeper-batter Oliver Robinson couldn't make an impact and returned to the dressing room, leaving Durham for 97/6. Then, Stokes witnessed what he had often done in his international cricket career — chasing down a target despite odds stacked against him.

Rhodes, Aldridge stage comeback

Rhodes and Aldridge tried to build a partnership. In the 27th over, Rhodes reached his half-century from 55 balls. Aldridge kept the required run rate in check, finding boundaries. In the 34th over, Aldridge reached his fifty from 56 balls. Both batters started taking the aerial route as well. Just when Durham were looking to take the game away, Aldridge was run on in the 41st over in an attempt to take the second run. The skipper scored 78 runs from 79 balls, featuring seven fours and a couple of sixes. Durham were 242/7 after 40.5 overs, needing 85 runs from remaining 55 balls.

Rhodes does a Stokes

Rhodes kept the run chase alive. He reached his third List A century from 99 balls. James Minto supported him from the other end as well. In the last two overs, Durham needed 23 runs. Rhodes hit a six and a four off the first two balls of the penultimate over. Douthwaite took a beating in his final over, conceding 15 runs. The equation for the final over was eight runs. Rhodes took a single and then Minto hit two consecutive fours off Andy Gorvin to finish the run chase. Rhodes faced 122 deliveries to score 148 runs, including 15 fours and three sixes. Durham won by three wickets, maintaining their winning streak in the ongoing edition.

Durham's next match is against Yorkshire on July 31. Yorkshire have won three games on the trot since India left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav's arrival.
