One of the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup will reportedly take place at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai while the final will be held at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Acording to a report by The Indian Express, the first game of the tournament will also be played in Ahmedabad while it is not known as to where will the second semi-final will be held.
The report mentioned that if an India-Pakistan clash takes place in the semi-final, then it will be played in Colombo while the other fixture of the Last 4 stage will take place in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai and Ahmedabad, other cities like Chennai and Kolkata will be hosting the India leg. On the other hand, a total of three venues from Sri Lanka have also been selected for the mega-tournament.
Each venue likely to host 6 matches each
The report further stated that in a recent meeting held among BCCI's top officials, it was decided that the T20 World Cup will be played in fewer cities in comparison to the 2023 ODI World Cup that was also hosted by India. Each venue is expected to host six games each.
“In a meeting held among top BCCI officials, it was decided that this time the World Cup will be played in fewer cities compared to the 2023 World Cup, and each venue is expected to get at least six games each," the report said.
T20 WC schedule expected to be announced soon
Not just this, the report also mentioned that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has already made it clear to the BCCI that if Sri Lanka qualifies for the semis, then their match will be held in Colombo. Even if India and Pakistan both end up making it all the way to the final, their match will be held at a neutral venue. It is expected that the ICC will announce the schedule of the 2026 T20 World Cup soon. The 20-team tournament is set to be played from February 7 to March 8.
