The wicketkeeper-batter hit 15 boundaries and 8 sixes in his explosive knock and was assisted well by Jos Buttler, who also played a fiery inning of 83 runs from just 30 deliveries. In reply, South Africa could only manage to put up a total of 158 runs on the board before getting bundled out. Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts and recorded figures of 3/25 while the likes of Sam Curran, Liam Dawson and Will Jacks racked up two scalps each. The victory saw the Three Lions level the three-match T20I series at 1-1.

“With the batting lineup we’ve got, there aren’t many heights we can’t reach. Every must-win game now, leading up to the T20 World Cup in February, is excellent preparation for us," Brook said at the post-match presentation.

“Every must-win game now is a chance to prepare for the T20 World Cup. We want to win every time, but taking these learnings forward is crucial. There are some phenomenal players, and it’s always good to have debates about tough selection decisions," he added.

Salt's record-breaking knock

Meanwhile, Salt broke a plethora of records with his spectacular knock of 141*. He first broke Liam Livingstone's record for the England player with the fastest half-century in the shortest format. Salt had reached his fifty from just 19 deliveries and never stopped scoring boundaries throughout his inning.
