'This India will fight and reply': Yashasvi Jaiswal reacts to Harsha Bhogle's verdict on physical altercation with Asitha Fernando

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally reacted to the physical altercation with Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. Jaiswal was initially walking back to the dressing room but Fernando said something which irked the opener. He returned and had a confrontation with Fernando, almost headbutting him before calmer heads prevailed and Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva urged him to leave the ground. Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle shared his views on the matter, saying that the altercation could’ve been avoided. Jaiswal replied to the reel on Instagram saying that a judgment on him crossing the line shouldn't be made when someone doesn't know what the pacer said.

"If you don't know what he said then please don't make your judgement. If anyone cross [sic] the line we need to let them know this India will fight and reply," Jaiswal commented.

What India and Sri Lanka coaches said on Jaiswal-Fernando incident

After the day’s play, during a conversation with the media, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said that Jaiswal shouldn’t have gotten close. Sri Lanka bowling coach Ryan van Niekerk has put it on the match referee Andy Pycroft to make the decision and termed it as an ‘overflow of emotion’.

Jadeja recalls Dickwella incident to criticise Jaiswal

Also, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja delivered his verdict, saying that the opener should be able to endure the sledges when he dishes it out. He recalled how Jaiswal had sledged Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella during the hosts’ unsuccessful run chase in Galle. The young opener had asked Dickwella to hit a six and even an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract and potential conversation with Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Kumar Sangakkara was mentioned.

Jaiswal misses half-century

On Day 1 of the second Test, Jaiswal got bowled via an inside edge after hitting Fernando for three fours in the over. He departed on the last ball of the 17th over. The 24-year-old scored 45 runs from 53 deliveries, including nine fours.
